ACTION NEEDED TODAY

 Friends,

TODAY IS THE DAY!

Do you love DCL?  Support growth of our resort-based economy? Concerned about local jobs, schools and future for our kids? If so, your voice needs to be heard in Annapolis today!
We need all lake property owners/ user,  community groups, Garrett and Allegany county leaders and citizens to speak out—today!

The State Lakes Protection and Restoration Fund bill before the General Assembly requires the State of Maryland to commit funds for the 16 state owned lakes including the 4 in Garrett County--Deep Creek Lake, Herrington Manor, Savage River Reservoir, and New Germany--and in Allegany County--Lake Habeed at Rocky Gap.

The Committee on Environment and Transportation is now considering the bill and their decision will determine the future of  Deep Creek Lake, the resort-based economy, jobs opportunities, and quality of our schools and future for our kids.

ACTION ALERT

1. Contact Delegate Barve, Chair of the E& T Committee, urging Committee support for HB 801 and that the Committee secure the required funds for the bill.

Delegate Kumar Barve: kumar.barve@house.state.md.us;(410) 841-3990(301) 858-39901-800-492-7122, ext. 3990 (toll free).

2. Contact Speaker of the House Mike Busch urging him to support HB 801 with its requirement to allocatin $3 million/year to state owned lakes. Tell him to inform Delegate Barve he "has his back" on this bill.

Speaker Michael Busch: michael.busch@house.state.md.us(410) 841-3800(301) 858-38001-800-492-7122, ext. 3800 (toll free)

Message:

The State owns  DCL and the other 15 state owned lakes.

The State is therefore responsible for their protection and restoration.

But state neglect has led to substantial declines in these natural, recreation and economic resources.

As we have learned from the Bay experience, investment  in restoration and protection is necessary for sustainability.

We must have state investment and committee to these premier public assets.

We need you act today.  We have to show the massive support that exists. If we cannot get this done this year, it is really unclear if there is an avenue for future action on this matter, allowing the further decline of the lake and local economy.

Please forward this newsletter to friends and family who also love DCL, ask them to help.

Your friends and neighbors,

Friends of Deep Creek Lake Board
